Lenses of Close Inspection
Once per room, the wearer is able to affect a critical hit on a creature that is normally immune to critical hits (e.g., Constructs, Oozes, Plants, Undead, etc.) as well as perform a sneak attack on a creature that is normally immune to being sneak attacked.
This item only overcomes a monster’s crit/sneak immunity if the wearer attacks with a Melee weapon. Other tokens that allow Ranged sneak attacks do not overcome this token’s melee-attack-only restriction.
This token’s once per room power is only triggered on a successful critical hit or sneak attack. Its use does not need to be declared in advance. E.g., if in the course of attacking a vampire, the wearer happens to land their token on the 20 spot, the magic from these goggles automatically kicks in and allows that slide to be a crit. Without these goggles (or some other item that overcomes crit immunity) that 20 would still be a hit, but it would not crit and would not deal double damage. Similarly, an attempted sneak attack that fails to hit does not expend this item’s once per room power.
If desired, the wearer has the option to not activate these goggles when a trigger situation would have been applicable. E.g., if a rogue slides a natural 20 on a standard melee attack, but they know they’re going to attempt a sneak attack on the next round, the player can stop this power from triggering and save it for when they make their sneak attack the next round.
