Charm of the Cabal

Reduces the effective Spell Resistance of the monster for the wearer(s), based on the number of Charms of the Cabal equipped in the party, as shown below:

To determine the monster’s net Spell Resistance, take its base Spell Resistance and subtract the percentage points shown in the table above. E.g., if a monster has a base Spell Resistance of 75% and three party members are wearing Charm of the Cabal, the monster’s net Spell Resistance for those characters is 60%.

If there are multiple monsters with Spell Resistance, they will all be affected by Charm of the Cabal’s Spell Resistance reduction effect.

The net Spell Resistance reduction provided by this item only affects the wearer(s) of this charm. Characters not wearing this charm must overcome the monster’s base Spell Resistance, regardless of how many Charms of the Cabal are equipped in the party. Here is an example: The party is fighting a golem with 50% Spell Resistance. The bard, cleric, druid, and wizard are each wearing a Charm of the Cabal. If any of those four characters cast a spell at the golem, they only need to overcome a Spell Resistance of 35%. If the elf wizard (or any other non-Charm-of-the-Cabal-wearing character) casts a spell at the golem, she will need to overcome a Spell Resistance of 50%.

Spell Resistance: The chance to ignore spells cast by characters, scrolls, or wands. It does not negate magic which is not “cast”. E.g., Spell Resistance will not prevent a +1 Short Sword from damaging a monster nor will it prevent the special ability of a weapon from functioning. (e.g., +2 Rod of Disjunction) To make a Spell Resistance check, the DM will quickly roll a d20. If the roll is equal to or higher than the target’s Spell Resistance as shown in the list below, the spell will fail to affect the target.

This item is part of the Cabal Set.
When at least three Cabal items are equipped, wearers gain the ability to cast two spells from their character card in one round. (Both spells are marked off the player’s card.) The second spell is cast as a Free Action. Unlike the Bracelets of the Zephyr ability, either or both spells cast in this manner are capable of being modified or duplicated because neither is “cast as a scroll”. This ability is usable once per room.

This set bonus does not bestow the ability to cast Spells to classes that don’t already have the ability to cast Spells from their character card. (sorry monks)
