Boots of Bounding
Once per room, the wearer may use a melee weapon (using melee combat modifiers) to attack flying or levitating monsters. The monster must be in the air, not just at range. Each time this “melee-for-ranged” attack is attempted (whether the attack was successful or not), the wearer takes 2 points of Eldritch damage.
These boots do not confer the ability to fly/levitate, they allow the wearer to leap up, attack, and land safely back in the same spot from which they took off. These boots neither impair nor improve the wearer’s ability to perform normal attacks or Spell castings.
This effect does not teleport the character to the monster–the character physically moves up to the creature. Bars, force fields, or other impediments to movement could prevent the attacker from reaching the intended target.
Q1) Does this turn a melee attack into a ranged attack?
A1) No. It allows you to perform a melee attack against a monster that otherwise may only be attacked with ranged attacks. For example, you would still be subject to Retribution Damage when making an attack with this ability.
Q2) How does this interact with re-slide abilities?
A2) If an effect allows you to re-slide an attack, the re-slide also benefits from the ability to attack a monster that may only be hit by ranged attacks.
